Our second Marquee Event will focus on plant medicine and feature experts in the field of herbal medicine and ethnobotany. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the benefits of plant medicine and explore new avenues for healing and self-discovery.

SPEAKER BIOS

Amanda Reiman is from Personal Plants. Dr. Reiman is a social worker who has been studying the relationships between people and psychoactive plants for 20+ years. Dubbed the “Dr. Ruth of cannabis”, Amanda’s superpower is taking complicated and stigmatized information and making it accessible to the masses. Quoted in the New York Times, Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Playboy and elsewhere, she is the trusted voice and conscience of the cannabis space. Having earned her PhD in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley, her research focuses on the use of psychoactive plants in a harm reduction context. Through her company, Personal Plants, she educates others around developing and maintaining healthy relationships with psychoactive plants. She is also the Co-Founder of SACRΞD GARDΞN, which focuses on psychedelic plant education, conservation and cultivation utilizing Web3 technology to build community. Amanda resides in Mendocino County, CA, in the famed Emerald Triangle and is a dedicated teacher, gardener, partner and dog and cat mom.

Lanny Kaufer has been leading “herb walks,” nature hikes, and workshops in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties since 1976, educating hundreds of locals and visitors on the edible and medicinal flora of the area. He holds a biology degree from UC Santa Cruz and is the author of Medicinal Herbs of California: A Field Guide to Common Healing Plants (Falcon Guides, 2021). Lanny produced the Ojai Medical Cannabis Conference in 2019 and currently hosts the Ojai Herbal Symposium, to be held on November 11-12, 2023.

Lanny specializes in making learning about edible and medicinal plants accessible and fun for people of all ages. Lanny acquired much of his plant knowledge in field study with well-known herbalists and ethnobotanists, including the late William LeSassier and the late Chumash plant expert Juanita Centeno. He has co-led workshops, field classes and expeditions with noted experts such as the late herbalist and author Michael Moore, author-herbalist Michael Tierra, author-herbalist Amanda McQuade Crawford, Professor Emeritus James Adams of USC School of Pharmacy, Chumash educators Julie Tumamait-Stenslie and Patrick Tumamait, author-survivalist Christopher Nyerges, and others.

Lanny is a lifelong advocate for the Indigenous ceremonial use of peyote. He is a member in good standing of American Indian Religion of Dzilth-na-dith-hle, based in Bloomfield, NM.

Robert Johnson is a product developer and consultant who has worked in the cannabinoid and supplement space since 2008. He’s the owner/CEO of Custom Capsule Consultants, which offers best-in-class manufacturing services, product development, and custom formulations. He’s also the founder of the Mycroboost mushroom supplement brand, as well as CBD is Better and Kratom+.
His insights around psychedelics, mycology, hemp, cannabis, supplements, product development, market demands and consumer trends have earned him bylines in Rolling Stone, Cannabis Industry Journal, Natural Products Insider, mg magazine, Nutritional Outlook, and Green Entrepreneur, He’s been a featured speaker and panelist at numerous industry events, including the California Psychedelic Conference.
